baredance

Welcome to our current abode! Please be on the lookout for our new home www.baredances.com, soon to come to a computer near you.

But first,
I'd like to introduce Francesca Jandasek and Stephanie Yezek, the co-artistic collaborators of baredance.

BACKGROUND

Francesca Jandasek and Stephanie Yezek first began working together as dancers in BosmaDance in 2005. Often while creating work in this company, the dancers were given movement phrases and then asked to deconstruct them, working collaboratively to make, say, a duet. “I loved working with Stephanie because I would flip upside down and she wouldn’t freak out, but just go with it,” says Jandasek about one of the first times the two worked together in such a setting.

In the spring of 2008 the dancers reconnected after Yezek returned from Oxford, England after pursuing her Master’s in English in Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company, a contemporary Indian fusion company.  At the 2008 Dance/Metro DC awards, Yezek and another Dakshina dancer, Melissa Greco Liu performed a duet, and it was there, backstage of the Terrace Theater, that Michael Ann Mullikin provided the first opportunity for the birth of BARE, Jandasek’s and Yezek’s dance collaboration.  “Michael Ann literally whispered in my ear, ‘I want to present you and Francesca on the Millennium Stage,’” recalls Yezek. and since performing at the Kennedy Center, she and Jandasek have worked collaboratively, dancing in each other’s pieces and producing their own work at Baltimore Theatre Project, traveling abroad to Oxford, England and most recently being presented by Dance Place, DC’s “hub for modern dance”.

MISSION

bare seeks in its amalgam of diverse creative visions to produce not a single voice, but a collaborative harmony of voices atop the underlying themes of physicality, vulnerability and strength in order to reach an understanding of the self as it stands alone or with/against another.
